Prayer & Praise Monday – September 17, 2012

O Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!

You have set your glory
    above the heavens.
From the lips of children and infants
    you have ordained praise
because of your enemies,
to silence the foe and the avenger.

When I consider your heavens,
    the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
what is man that you are mindful of him,
the son of man that you care for him?
You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings
and crowned him with glory and honor.

You made him ruler over the works of your hands;
you put everything under his feet:
all flocks and herds,
and the beasts of the field,
the birds of the air,
and the fish of the sea,
all that swim the paths of the seas.

O Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!

(Psalm 8 NIV)

This Psalm was in my Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) study this week and I’ve been enjoying meditating on it this past weekend. As a kid, I participated in a church musical presentation of one of the Colby records (anyone else remember those?). Anyway, I had a small solo in the musical and sang a version of this Psalm. Since then, it has always been a favorite and I can’t read the words without singing along! (Don’t worry…I’ll spare you!)

I thought it was a nice way to start out our week – praising the Lord for his majesty and power as creator and sustainer over everything! I love the line, “What is man, that you are mindful of him?” His mind is full of thoughts of US?? And He takes His glory and crowns OUR heads with it?? Amazing! Ponder that one for a bit! 🙂

Before we get on to this week’s prayer requests and praises, I just want to remind you that we are hosting a little giveaway over on The Pleated Poppy blog. Be sure to stop by the blog to enter (you can find it HERE). You will certainly be blessed by Lindsey’s biblical encouragement and crafty inspiration…and might just win a Throne of Grace gift certificate too! Last day to enter is this Wednesday!

Now, please join us as we pray this week:

• Continue to pray for Tommy, Tami’s father-in-law, who had his leg amputated a little over a week ago. He is still in the hospital recovering but healing well and wanting to be more active. However, the doctors have been stumped trying to figure out why his oxygen levels have been so low. It looks like he is having some heart issues on top of everything else and will probably have a procedure done today to replace a stint in his heart. Please pray for wisdom for the doctors to be able to resolve these secondary health issues. Pray also for continued peace for Tommy and his wife, Linda, and for the ability to submit to God’s plan for them. Pray for the decisions regarding Tommy’s transition home – whether that involves time in a rehab center first, or not. Hopefully Tami and her husband, Kyle, will have an opportunity to visit with Tommy and Linda this coming weekend so pray that God would be glorified in that time.

• Pray for Molly’s mom, Sally, who was a guest blogger with us a few weeks ago. (You can find that post HERE.) Sally has taken on a new ministry this year leading a group of women in Bible study through her church. Their first meeting is tonight. Pray that Sally would be sensitive to the Holy Spirit’s leading and boldly share God’s truth with these women. Pray for unity and and the development of solid fellowship among the group.

• Please join us in praying for the son of one of our readers. Her name is Lori and her son, Jacob, should have had his first day of high school two weeks ago. Instead, he has been undergoing chemo therapy for stage 4 Hodgkin’s Disease. Pray for God to give both Jacob and Lori peace to help him accept and fight his diagnosis.  Pray that his body will tolerate the chemo well and that the nausea won’t be unbearable.  Jacob will be on 21-day cycles of chemo and will be out of school for 4-6 months. Pray that the Lord will miraculously shrink his tumors with each treatment. He has chest pain from the tumors, so pray for God’s supernatural strength to endure the pain and overcome the cancer triumphantly.  Most of all, pray with me that both Lori and Jacob will be surrounded by the love and hope and only Jesus can give! May the Lord weave some beautiful things into Jacob’s character as he goes through this difficult experience!

• Praise the Lord with us for His faithful financial provisions! An extremely generation donation has been made to the Throne of Grace ministry that will provide for many needs. Please pray that the Lord would give us wisdom to know how to best use what we’ve been given in order to multiply its blessing. We’ve been convicted by the words of Jesus in Matthew 25:14-30 when he shares the Parable of the Talents. We’ve feel like we’ve been given much and we need to multiply it much! Pray with us that we would be good and faithful stewards with this blessing.

As always, leave us a comment to let us know you are joining us in prayer today. It is always an encouragement to know we are not alone as we pray! And, if you there is some way we can pray for you, let us know that too! Deadline for submission of prayer requests or praise reports is Friday at NOON (PST) and we will include your prayer in next Monday’s post!

Make it a great Monday!
