Prayer & Praise Monday – September 16, 2013

Prayer&PraiseMondayGraphic2

Good morning, Friends!

I’m actually getting this one out in the morning! Always good to start our day in prayer, huh? 🙂

Just two quick requests this week so I will get right to them:

• Please pray for our friend, Karen, who is still on her mission trip in Tanzania for two more weeks. Please pray this week for Karen’s times of preparation – she will be speaking on Saturday, 9/21 at a gathering of women on the topic of God’s love.  Karen’s mom will also be speaking so we can pray for her too! If you’ve missed our previous prayer requests for Karen, she is in a village of Tanzania called Kigoma.  Karen is working with an organization called Hope of the Nations, which provides orphans there with 2 meals a day, a clean uniform, and schooling.  Please continue to pray that Karen will yield to God’s daily plan for her. Pray that the Holy Spirit will speak boldly through her and that there will be a great harvest of spiritual fruit in the lives of the Tanzanian women she ministers to.

• The Throne of Grace team would LOVE your prayers! Several of the team members have big decisions to make this week regarding our time commitments for the next few months. Decisions we make regarding home and family life will greatly impact our ministry with Throne of Grace. It is always a challenge for us to find the right balance and we have to continually go to the Lord in prayer and seek His direction with each step! As we enter the busiest season for our ministry, we would greatly appreciate your prayers. Please pray specifically that we will clearly discern God’s will, submit joyfully to His plans, and keep HIS GLORY at the center of all our decisions!

I’m guessing there are many of you who are currently evaluating and committing to responsibilities and ministries for the year. Fall brings a new school year with new volunteering opportunitites, new sports season, the busyness of holidays, and for many, the start of a new ministry year with church, MOPs, Bible study, AWANA, etc. Let us know if we can be praying for YOU in these same ways! Let’s all be mindful of seeking God’s will – even in those very good things – and letting Him direct our steps.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall directyour paths.
(Proverbs 3:5,6 NKJV)

Blessings for a great week!molly

Birthday Adventures

My husband, Kyle, and I were both born at inopportune times of the year. My birthday is September 1 – it’s near or on Labor Day and is usually the hottest time of the year here in CA. Kyle’s birthday is way worse, however – it’s January 2!  It’s so hard to make a birthday feel special right after Christmas and New Year’s!  Plus, everything is super crowded and the weather is usually freezing cold – or, at least cold for CA! 😉

So, needless to say, the crowds and bad weather at both times of year usually make going out for a fun birthday activity less than ideal.  We’ve had a few birthday fails over the years, but our lowest point was definitely the “Disneyland Corndog Debacle”.  Kyle had a craving for a Disneyland corndog, but that year his birthday fell on the last weekend of Christmas break.  It was super cold and so crowded that we couldn’t even get into the park!  We went elsewhere in search of a fantastic corndog, but with no success!  That sad day was only redeemed a couple days later when some awesome friends helped me surprise Kyle with corndogs they made from scratch! Delicious!

As you may have guessed, however, that experience forever changed our birthday planning.  From then on, we tended to either stay home and cook or only venture out for short trips to unusual and hopefully, not crowded, locales. In the end, this became a blessing in disguise. We got creative – doing cooking challenges and always trying something new.  We even learned how to make some of our favorite meals on birthdays!

One of the most interesting came from one of Kyle’s birthdays where every meal had to include chocolate and peanut butter.  We did some research and developed a recipe for a chicken mole, which fit the bill and, despite the odd combo of ingredients, came out amazing!

I’ll have to share the recipe for it sometime 😉

This year for my birthday, however, it was so hot that I didn’t feel like doing much cooking, so we did a little something different instead.  I’m the designated baker in our family, but rather than bake my own birthday cake (and turn on the oven!), I thought it would be fun to scope out a yummy bakery we’d never been to before.  After a quick search online, we found the Blackmarket Bakery in Costa Mesa.

Here’s a link to their website in case you’d like to check it out! http://www.blackmarketbakery.com/index.php/home

My birthday fell on a Sunday this year, so after church we ventured up to the bakery for lunch and an awesome dessert.  We both had one of their amazing grilled cheese sandwiches on house-made bread.  I had one with cheddar, bacon, and roasted red pepper on cheddar shallot bread.  Kyle had one with bacon and American cheese on their Dutch crunch bread. They were delicious!  We both devoured them so quickly, we forgot to take pictures!

Then, it was time for dessert!  We got a couple tarts to share – one had chocolate, shortbread, and crème brûlée, while the other had chocolate and caramel (also devoured before a picture was taken…).  They were so good, we went back for more to take home – 2 more crème brûlée tarts and a lemon raspberry one that also looked fantastic!

It was definitely an insane dessert-splurging day!

Next, my super sweet hubby came shopping with me for my birthday present – a new pair of boots.  I’ve spent the last year trying to find a pair of riding boots that would suit me.  No matter what I ordered, Kyle vetoed pair after pair.  I’m only 5’4”, so trying to find a pair of knee high boots that looked right on me hadn’t been easy…

Both of us aren’t usually big fans of shopping, unless it’s done online, but after so many attempts, Kyle suggested we go to the mall and look together.  What a sweetie!

Here’s what we found!

As you can see, I didn’t end up with knee high riding boots in the end, but we both liked these and thought they fit both my shorter stature and my style 🙂

So, all in all, it was a great birthday!  And, the best part, of course, was spending the whole day with Kyle!  That’s what I look forward to most every year!  Although, the desserts and boots were pretty awesome, too 😉

Let us know if you have any fun birthday traditions – or tips for beating crowds at busy times of year!  We’re always open to new birthday ideas!

Love,tami

Prayer & Praise Monday – September 9, 2013

Prayer&PraiseMondayGraphic2

Happy Monday, Prayer Warriors!

I’m getting this one in just under the wire! It’s almost Tuesday! 🙂

We have entered the “busy season” for Throne of Grace and for the Garibaldi family personally. The start of school, the start of a new ministry year with church and Bible study commitments, the start of boutique season…and a few family birthdays, house guests, and trips thrown in for good measure. Oh, yeah…and then there are the holidays looming close! (And judging by the aisles at the grocery store and department stores, they are coming faster every year!)

I kind of dread Fall, yet eagerly anticipate some of my favorite events of the year at the same time! The challenge lies in looking ahead enough to plan and prepare but yet not missing the joy of the moment because I’m overwhelmed by tomorrow…or next month!

So here’s my first prayer request – for myself and for all who find themselves easily consumed by the busy Fall season:

• Please pray that we will look to the Lord to number our days aright and seek His wisdom and blessing over our calendars and commitments. (Psalm 90:12) It is easy this time of year to bite off more than we can chew or try to “power through” on our own strength rather than depending on the Holy Spirit to lead, guide, and accomplish the work the Lord has prepared in advance for us to do. (Ephesians 2:10) Pray that we will allow Him to direct our steps day-by-day. (Proverbs 16:9) Lysa TerKeurst, of Proverbs 31 Ministries, often talks about the Lord being our daily portion. He gave the Israelites wandering in the desert enough manna for each day and did not allow them to collect any beyond the day’s portion. (see Exodus 16) He wanted them to live in dependence upon their Heavenly Father for their daily bread.

“Give us this day, our DAILY bread…”
(Luke 11:3)

He wants us to do the same!

A few more prayers and praises for this week:

• Please pray for our brother and sister in Christ, Melissa and Gus, and their two young boys. These dear friends are long-term missionaries in Leon, Spain. Melissa and Gus have been home on furlough in California for the past few months and will begin the return trip to Spain this Wednesday. You remember those cute canvas tags Deb made last month? Those were for Melissa! We are grateful for the time we shared with them this summer and have been so encouraged by the ways that God is equipping them and using them to reach the very unreached people of Spain. Pray for safe travels and a smooth transition back into ministry life. Pray for Melissa and Gus to see God’s hand of provision for every need!

• Let’s continue to pray for Karen as she serves for two more weeks in Tanzania. Karen is serving alongside her brother and sister-in-law and partnering with Hope of the Nations. You can read more about Karen’s mission trip on last week’s Prayer & Praise post HERE.

• Last but not least, I would love to have our prayer warriors join the Throne of Grace team in praying for those suffering through the pain of infertility. It has been heavy on my heart lately as we have sold 10 sets of prayer cards just in the past month in our line of products related to infertility and adoption! Those 10 sets sold represent 9 different customers reaching out to receive some encouragement and blessing from God’s Word. Let’s lift those hurting couples up to the Lord this week. Pray with me that their purchases will indeed be a source of blessing and hope and that they would be drawn closer to Christ as the source of all comfort. Pray that in the Lord’s will and perfect timing, He will open the wombs of these women for their good and for His glory!

Thanks, as always, for joining us before the Throne of Grace! It is wonderful to be able to offer this ministry of prayer and to know that we have faithful prayer warriors around the nation – and the world! – interceding with us.

May the Lord be your daily portion this week!

Blessings in Christ,molly
